We’re seeking an experienced and highly skilled Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon to join a dedicated team within a modern, purpose-built hospital in Birmingham. This is an excellent opportunity to deliver high-quality elective orthopaedic care in a state-of-the-art environment, with a strong focus on patient outcomes and clinical excellence.

The Role

As a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, you will play a key role in delivering specialist care, particularly in hip and knee procedures. You’ll benefit from a supportive clinical environment, with minimal on-call responsibilities shared across the orthopaedic team and first-line cover provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of elective orthopaedic procedures, including:
    • Primary hip and knee replacements
    • Knee arthroscopy
    • Carpal tunnel release
    • Joint injections and aspirations
    • Additional minor procedures aligned with your expertise
  • Deliver high-quality care across the full patient pathway: preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless patient care
  • Support and supervise junior clinical staff
  • Contribute to clinical governance, audit, and service improvement initiatives
  • Participate in teaching, CPD, and departmental development

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • GMC Specialist Registration in Trauma & Orthopaedics
  • Proven high-volume surgical experience, such as:
    • 250+ primary hip/knee replacements or
    • 500+ arthroscopic procedures over 3 years
  • Strong clinical outcomes supported by NJR (or equivalent) data
  • Excellent theatre efficiency and patient care record
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous improvement
  • Flexibility to meet service and productivity goals
